Our History

Established in September of 1967 with sponsorship from the Susan E Wiley Parent-Teacher Association, Troop 284 emerged as an independent entity, branching off from its predecessor, Troop 26. Its inaugural Scoutmaster, William Kastner, along with Senior Patrol Leader Michael Nyberg, who later achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, set the standard for leadership. Today much has changed. We are now sponsorsed by the Copiague Kiwanis Club, and meet at Copiague Middle School on Great Neck Road every Wednesday evening.
What hasn't changed is the seasoned adult leadership, that has nurtured 80 youths to achievethe coveted Eagle Scout rank, an accomplishment shared by two accomplished young women since the create of Troop 284G. With a legacy of excellence, Troop 284 remains dedicated to providing dynamic, value-centered programming for our community's youth, highlighted by monthly outdoor adventures that promote personal growth and camaraderie.
